Network Solutions steals domain ideas - confirmed?

Just saw this on www.digg.com, and it was also sent from a friend, take this for what it is worth. This seems like just the sorta FUD story that is at home on the internet. I have not personally confirmed this, but it seems possible. I have now confirmed this, it does just what the article says. I tried a random string of letters and numbers. No luck, then I tried johnedsonsmith.com. Now that domain name is now reserved by Network Solutions. So with any luck a domain squatter will buy it in a few days when Network Solutions temp hold expires and waste his money

The story seems to indicate that if you use Network Solutions to check for the availability of domain name AND you do not buy it at that time, Network Solutions will hold it for a few days so you can not register the domain through another register like godaddy. Full story here.

Holler, if you can confirm one way or another.

joshua cyr's Gravatar I can confirm. I searched networksolutionssucksnastyballs.com and it was listed as available. However 3 seconds later it is listed as taken with godaddy and if you visit the site it says its registered with network solutions.

Ken Auenson's Gravatar Unfortunately this is their very poorly implemented attempt to help users.
There is a big problem out there in the domain market...
When you search for availablity of a domain name, the domain name request has to be blasted out there to see if it is already taken...
Some very bad people have been getting a hold of lists of domain names that are being checked and registering them before the legitimate user can.

This happened to a friend of mine when he was planning on creating a web site for his company. He searched for his (very unique) name and it was available.
He decided to wait a couple of days to find the best rate to buy the domain...
When he checked back 3 days later he found out that a domain hijacker had bought it on the same day he searched for it, and had a generic site up offering the site for sale for $200.

With NetSol registering the domains temporarily it does prevent this kind of attack from happening, but unfortunately results in people being locked into buying the domain from NetSol...
They should have an automated way to cancel this in the event you choose to register the domain name elsewhere, or at least offer an opt-out.

dancinorator's Gravatar GoDaddy Steals your domain names if you use their search engine to see if
a domain is available. They register them through Wild West Domains that
is owned by them. Boycott GODADDY. They are Thieves!!!! It has happened
to me twice that I searched for a domain and ordered it through my ISP.
Within 8 hours someone else had bought it through Wild West Domains.
GODADDY NEEDS TO BE SUED AND SHUT DOWN ICANN! If ICANN doesn't do
anything about it we know they are in on it...
